Halloween Memories

Dearest Punkin,

Tomorrow is Halloween, my favorite holiday of the year. I just love wearing costumes! I think my favorite part is in designing and making them. I hope when you are older, you will like costumes as much as I do.

I remember when I was a little girl, Halloween was always a very special family holiday. We always went to Gamaw and Big Daddy's house for some super sweet goodies and Trick-or-Treating. Gamaw made the most decadent red candied apples for your Aunt Ashley and Uncle Brandon but she made me a delicious caramel apple. (She knows us all so well). She also stuffed clear plastic gloves with popcorn and a candy corn in the ends to look like witch hands. Then she made caramel coated popcorn balls and cookies. They were so good! For dinner, she toasted English muffins and loaded them with pizza toppings. Then she put them in the oven and served us personalized mini pizzas. After dinner, someone would always take us Trick-or-Treating around their neighborhood. We'd finish up at their house to look over all the candy we got and I would always try to bribe Aunt Ashley out of her good chocolate pieces!

While Gamaw loved Halloween for the food and kid costumes, Big Daddy loved it for a different reason... Every year, he decorated the front porch with a very realistic looking scarecrow named Sam. He wore a long flannel shirt, jeans, boots, work gloves, and had a pumpkin for a head. On the other side of the front porch was always the largest jack-o-lantern of the neighborhood. Big daddy made sure of that! He would put a device under the entry mat that, when stepped on, made a very loud siren noise. Anytime anyone came to the house, Big Daddy would wait to hear the siren and his face would just light up as he chuckled! Of course, he moved the device every day so we wouldn't know where it was. He LOVED practical jokes! I'm sure Halloween must have been one of his favorite holidays too.

I can't wait to start some family holiday traditions with you. I hope whatever we do will leave you with lasting memories too.

Meet you soon,
Mommy
