I'm starting to get used to this mommy thing. I've been doing things I never thought I would. I was more terrified of breastfeeding than of giving birth. And while it was a rocky road at first, I think I've finally gotten the hang of it. Also - the nose bulb - that thing scares the bejesuit out of me! But, reluctantly, I did it. It's amazing what a mother will do when her baby can't breathe. I even pulled her first bugger out of her nose with my fingernail! Gross! Since then, she's spit sour milk on me, I've caught liquid poop in my hand, and I've spread her girl parts with yeast medication. Thankfully, Mom stayed with us for the first week and could nurse her umbilical cord stump until it fell off (yet another thing that gives me the creeps).
Mom being with us really helped. Honestly, I don't know how new moms do it alone! I called Ashley and apologized to her for not going to help when she had Maverick. And then to have him AND Gwen... Geez. I just had no idea it would be so overwhelming. Mad props to you Ash. My mom was such a huge help. She taught us how to do stuff like give Amelie a bath, burp her, clip her nails... and the list goes on. She also has the knack for calming screaming babies. (She's had a lot of practice). Aside from baby stuff, she kept us well fed and did the laundry. She even cleaned the sun room which we were using as a temporary storage room while taking the downstairs tile up. Now it looks fabulous. I actually did cry a little when she left! Thanks so much Mom! I wanna be just like you when I grow up!
